A native of St. Charles, Missouri, John grew up influenced by Mark Twain, Stephen King and his love for cinema. After attending film school at Webster University in St. Louis, John moved out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in filmmaking.
He got his start working on Adam Green's Hatchet shooting behind-the-scenes footage, loading film and working as a camera assistant. After working in various capacities on many independent films, John became a camera operator for Blue Collar Productions, Inc. He has shot and produced EPK footage and interviews on many films including Hancock, Angels and Demons, Drive, Get On Up and The Shallows.
He has recently produced and shot behind-the-scenes on Ron Howard's Inferno and Fede Alvarez's Don't Breathe. He has also produced blu-ray content, theatrical promos, commercials and marketing videos.
In 2016 he formed his production company, Grossfilm with his husband, actor Jason Shepard. His debut short film, BOB, will be touring film festivals starting mid-2017.
